Fave Foods They eat small fish, amphibians, crustaceans, and aquatic insects. Deep Dive Kingfishers dive to catch their food. They perch on low-hanging branches while searching for prey. When they spot something, they plunge into the water and snatch it up for dinner. Excellent Eyes These birds have special eyes that can filter out bright sunlight. This helps lessen the reflections off the water so it is easier to spot prey. Protective Parents Common kingfishers are fierce! They will fight back against larger predators like snakes and foxes to protect their young. Sound Off These flyers are known for their high, shrill call that sounds like they're saying "Chee-chee-chee."
