FLIP THE PAGE FOR MORE HELPFUL TIPS AND TRICKS! > Not feeling sporty? Try joining a club instead—or make up one of your own! JOIN A SPORTS TEAM Maybe you want to be a soccer star at the World Cup one day. Or maybe you just want to show the kids from your rival school that they don't own the volleyball court. Whatever your goals, playing on a team is a great way to get exercise and meet new people. • Pick your sport. Go with an old favourite or try something new. • Practise. If you want to impress at tryouts, you'll want to be prepared. So play with a friend or family member, look up tips on YouTube, and do what you can to build your skills! • Sign up. • Have fun. IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY Boosting your brain's ability to recall things will make test-taking easier, which will lower your stress levels— and ensure you never lose your backpack again! • Eat a healthy diet with lots of fruit, veggies, and whole grains. Studies have shown blueberries in particular are helpful memory boosters! • Get lots of sleep—at least eight hours every night. • Do nothing. Seriously! When studying for a test, remember to take a few 15-minute breaks in which you do … nothing. Don't bring up YouTube, text a friend, or check what's in the fridge. Just close your eyes and chill out. This will give your brain a chance to rest and recharge its batteries. HOLD A FUNDRAISER Maybe you want to raise money for underprivileged kids around the world. Or maybe you just want to replace your school's tiger mascot costume because it has more holes than a golf course! Whatever your cause and fundraising goal, you can help make it happen. • Pick your fundraising method. Try an auction where students donate their time (lawn mowing, anyone?) or a garage sale where they donate old toys and clothes. • Clear your idea with your school principal and teachers. This will keep them in the loop—and might even result in some extra help! • Set a place, date, and time for your event, and make posters to advertise it. Ask if you can promote the fundraiser in your school newsletter or on morning announcements. • Prepare as best you can, show up at the place and time you chose, and raise those funds! owlconnected.com 13
