Joshua Williams, 15 FROM: Miami Beach, Florida GIG: Fighting hunger PHOTOS: ONTARIO SCIENCE CENTRE (ALEX DEANS); THE PRABHU FAMILY (TRISHA PRABHU); SAMANTHA SCOTT (JOSHUA AND GROUP) Joshua is the founder, president, and chief change-maker of Joshua's Heart Foundation, which provides food for the homeless, hungry families, and schoolkids. The charity has been active for 11 years and has distributed over 1.2 million pounds of food to those in need around the world. OWL: What inspired you to do what you do? JOSHUA: My grandmother gave me $20 to spend however I liked. While riding in the car I spotted a homeless man, and I knew I needed to give him something to make his day better. My mother suggested that I buy the man a meal, but I insisted on giving him the money. Soon after, I saw a Feed The Children commercial on TV and realized that my purpose in life was to help those suffering from hunger. Joshua's Heart Foundation has over 10,000 youth volunteers working hard to end world hunger. Change-It-Yourself! Are you or anyone you know involved in activism? Do you know of a new invention ready to take the world by storm? Let us know about it! owl@owlkids.com I like to chill with friends, go to the movies, and play video games. I'm just a normal kid with a foundation on the side. owlconnected.com 15
