chickaDEE 23 "I'm going to find out." I pulled a baseball hat out of my backpack. It had a magnifying glass drawn on the front with a big red B in the middle. "Another case for Belinda the Bold, private eye?" "And her faithful sidekick, Jayden." Jayden groaned. "Last time, we got in trouble for breaking into the gym." "We were looking for clues! And didn't we find the missing soccer balls?" "Well, yeah." "So, let's solve this crime, too." I grabbed Jayden and we ran back to search the bus. No notes. Same for the lawn and the school sidewalk. The bell rang. "We're late!" Jayden said. We ran to our classroom. There, on the floor right in front of the door, were my notes! "I knew you dropped them," Jayden said. I picked up the paper. "No. Look." I pointed to a purplish smudge in the top right corner. Jayden sniffed. "Blueberry jam?" I nodded. "And I hate blueberry jam. So someone else touched this paper." We went inside. Our teacher, Ms. Hernandez, passed out the quiz. It was hard to concentrate while keeping my eye out for clues, but I aced it. When we got the tests back, I got 10 out of 10. Then, Jayden nudged me and pointed over at three other students who were bragging about getting 10 out of 10, too. Frederica, Jack and Rose. "Very suspicious," I muttered to myself as I walked over to their desks. "Way to go on the math quiz," I said, trying to sound cheerful even though I suspected one of them of stealing my notes. Jack leaned back in his chair and smirked. "What can I say? I'm a genius." "Us, too!" Frederica and Rose said. They all high-fived. I looked at their hands. No purple jam smudges.
