Tongue Twister : ) Fireflies fly for fiery fireworks! Food colouring doesn't immediately dissolve in oil, so it sits on the surface of the water. Eventually, the colour leaks out of the oil and into the water below. When that happens, the dye dissolves, and you've got colourful "explosions"! Dr. Zed explains Try this colourful experiment! F irew o rks What to do: You'll need: • large glass • medium glass • water • 60 mL (¼ cup) vegetable oil • food colouring • fork 1 Fill the large glass with water. Leave a bit of room at the top. 2 Pour the vegetable oil into the medium glass. Add a few drops of different colours of food colouring. 3 Gently run the fork through the oil to break the food colouring into small drops. Don't mix it too much. 4 Slowly add the oil mixture by pouring it against the side of the large glass. Wait a few seconds and see what happens!
