S E A L S E A L Size Adults are about the size of a bathtub. Family Ties Harp seals are related to ribbon, ringed, and spotted seals. Fave Foods They eat fish and crustaceans. Fab Flippers These animals are great swimmers and spend most of their time in the ocean. They use their back flippers to push themselves through the water quickly. Deep Dive Harp seals dive underwater to hunt for food. They usually dive to less than 100 m (328 ft.), but they can dive to 400 m (1,312 ft.) and stay underwater up to 15 minutes! Ice Time Once a year, females gather in big groups on ice floes to give birth to their pups and find new mates. Growing Up After 12 days of nursing and gaining fat, pups are left alone on the ice. The young seals learn how to hunt, swim, and survive on their own. Arctic Animals These marine mammals live in the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans.
