This canine can survive in almost any climate—including the Arctic tundra. To keep warm, the fox grows a long, thick coat in late fall, when the temperature starts to drop. It also uses its fluffy tail as a blanket, wrapping itself up to stay toasty in the snow. Food can be scarce in the Arctic, but this creature is a great scavenger. Its excellent hearing and keen sense of smell help it track down mice and voles from over 30 m (98 ft.) away— even if the prey is hiding underground! Once the fox is close enough, it dives down into the snow to grab its meal. Dinner is served! Red Fox WINTER! WILD for Find out how these animals gear up and hunker down for the frosty weather.
