INVENTION 3: Air
p
lane
On December 17, 1903, the Wright Brothers officially operated the first
powered airplane ever! But the flight didn't last long.
When Wilbur and
Orville Wright's dad
brought home a
propeller toy, it was
just the beginning of
their love of mechanics
and flight.
When they grew up, the
brothers read about a
man in Germany who
had crafted gliding
wings. This gave them a
high-flying idea!
Are you
thinking what
I'm thinking?
Their flying machine was not built overnight. It took years
of experimenting!
Twelve
seconds!
Wow,
it flies!
So
cool!
That's
better than
no seconds!
The invention of the airplane changed the way
people travel the world and how food and goods
are delivered. Airplanes also paved the way for
space travel!
Let's build a
flying machine!
The Wright Brothers were able to do
four flights that day—the longest
lasting just 59 seconds. But their plane,
the
Flyer, turned the skies into a new
frontier!
